A WhatsApp link (also called a click-to-chat or wa.me link) opens a chat with a specific number the moment someone taps it, even if that number isn't in their contacts. It follows the official format https://wa.me/<number>, where the number is in full international format using digits only — no plus sign, no leading zeros, and no spaces or dashes. Adding ?text= lets you prefill a message the sender can edit before hitting send, which is ideal for support requests, order enquiries, and lead capture. This generator normalizes whatever you type into the exact format WhatsApp expects, validates the length against the E.164 standard (7–15 digits), and produces both the short wa.me link and the api.whatsapp.com/send equivalent. Everything runs in your browser — your number and message are never sent to a server.

What is a WhatsApp click-to-chat link?+
It's a link in the format https://wa.me/<number> that opens a WhatsApp conversation with a specific phone number as soon as someone clicks it — no need to save the number as a contact first. You can optionally attach a prefilled message with ?text=, which the recipient's sender sees pre-typed and can edit before sending.
How should the phone number be formatted?+
WhatsApp expects the number in full international format with digits only: country code followed by the subscriber number, with no plus sign, no leading zeros, and no spaces, dashes, or parentheses. For example, a UK number written locally as 07911 123456 becomes 447911123456. This tool does that conversion for you — including dropping the leading trunk 0 — so you can type the number however is natural.
Do I need to include the + or the country code?+
The final wa.me link never contains a +, but the number must always include the country code. In "Country + number" mode the code is added automatically from the country you select. In "Full number" mode you type the whole number including the country code; a leading + or 00 is accepted and stripped for you.
What's the difference between wa.me and api.whatsapp.com links?+
Both open the same chat. https://wa.me/<number> is the short, shareable form that WhatsApp recommends for most uses. https://api.whatsapp.com/send?phone=<number> is the older, more explicit form that behaves identically. Use wa.me for cleaner links in bios and print; either works in websites and QR codes. This tool generates both so you can pick.
Can I prefill a message, and will it send automatically?+
Yes, you can prefill a message, but it never sends automatically. WhatsApp places your text in the message box and the person still has to tap send — this is intentional, to prevent spam and give the sender control. Prefilled messages are great for support ("I need help with order #") and lead capture.
Does the recipient need to have my number saved?+
No. That's the main advantage of a click-to-chat link — it works with any WhatsApp number regardless of whether the two people have saved each other as contacts. The number just has to be a real WhatsApp account.
Is my number or message uploaded anywhere?+
No. The entire link is built in your browser with JavaScript. Nothing you type is sent to UtilitySansar or any server, so it's safe to use for private numbers and draft messages.
How long can the prefilled message be?+
WhatsApp itself is fairly generous, but very long links break in SMS previews and produce dense QR codes that are hard to scan. Keep prefilled messages short — a sentence or two — especially if you plan to print the QR code. This tool warns you when a link gets long enough to cause problems.
Can I turn the link into a QR code?+
Yes. Once the link is valid, a QR code is generated automatically and you can download it as a PNG or SVG. Scanning it on a phone opens the chat (with your prefilled message if you added one), which is perfect for flyers, packaging, table tents, and business cards.
